In a first for the city of Lucknow, Ritika Tiwari, a student of class X of City Montessori School, Gomti Nagar Extension Campus passed the ABRSM Violin grade 5 practical exams in Violin with Distinction. Ritika achieved this feat with online teaching by the CMS Western Music Teacher, Mr. Shamim Mohaved who took all her classes online for the last 10 months due to COVID. Earlier, she had also passed the grade 5 music theory exam with Distinction.
To secure Distinction in grade 5 violin is a serious achievement as the violin is a difficult instrument and Grade 5 of ABRSM requires a high level of playing and much skill. She achieved this feat while also preparing for her board exams for which she will appear this year.
A banker’s daughter, Ritika wants to make a career in Music. She says, ‘Seeing my interest in music, my teachers at CMS motivated me to take violin classes which I did and kept getting better under the guidance of my western music teacher. I had never taken any professional music classes before my school music teachers trained me.’ Ritika is being trained in western classical music by her music teachers in CMS for the last 3 years.
The Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) is the UK’s largest music education body, and the world’s leading provider of music exams, holding over 650,000 assessments in more than 90 countries every year, providing graded music exams, assessments and diplomas.
